that time when God gave me an organ

Over the weekend, I dropped by a garage sale in my neighborhood. I quickly ran up to the driveway to see if there was anything. And out of the corner of my eye, I spied something.

An organ. Yes, you read that right. A beautiful, oh-so-seventies, upright electric organ.

It was love at first sight.

Looking at it brought back a flood of childhood memories. We had one just like this growing up and I remember pushing the colored buttons, fascinated with all of the sounds that it could make! I remember moving my little feet across the foot pedals and composing little songs about cats and butterflies and things like that.

I asked the lady how much it was, thinking there was probably no way I could afford it. And she said, "Well, we were originally asking $40, but I'll give it to you for $10." I was shocked! Clint wasn't with me, so I couldn't lift it into my car to take it home. So, the nice lady offered to have her husband bring it to my house! A few hours later, he came by with his college-aged daughter and they moved it into my house.  And, it fit perfectly in a little spot under my stairs. I mean perfectly.

I spent the evening sprucing up my little organ. I polished the wood and cleaned the keys. And then I decorated the little corner.  It is my new happy place.

my dried roses from Clint and the framed hymn I made a few weeks back fit perfectly on top.

I've been holding onto this little thrifted plaque for months, waiting for the perfect spot to put it.
I love the quote, and I think it is so appropriate to have above an organ, don't you?

(And another neat thing - I sent this photo to my mom over the weekend to show her how I decorated the organ corner, and she told me that she had this same exact saying on a plaque over her desk as a child!)

the children have been enjoying it, too.
It's been wonderful to show them the notes on the keyboard and start to teach them how to play!

That first night, after the children had gone to bed, while the house was dark and quiet, I sat down at the organ. I turned the vintage lamp on, opened up an old hymnal, and began to play the hymn, "Purer in Heart, oh Lord".

And the tears started streaming down my face.
 I began to thank the Lord for this gift.
He knows me so well
And He knows how to bless my heart.
He gave me the perfect gift!
It is just my style, it fits perfectly in my house, and it brings music back into my life again.
I feel so loved!

Purer in heart, O God, help me to be;
May I devote my life wholly to Thee:
Watch Thou my wayward feet,
Guide me with counsel sweet;
Purer in heart, help me to be.

Purer in heart, O God, help me to be;
Teach me to do Thy will most lovingly;
Be Thou my Friend and Guide,
Let me with Thee abide;
Purer in heart, help me to be.

Purer in heart, O God, help me to be;
Until Thy holy face one day I see:
Keep me from secret sin,
Reign Thou my soul within;
Purer in heart, help me to be.
