treating myself

You know, so often as moms, we put ourselves last. I know I'm guilty of that. I don't take enough time for myself, to rest, to play, to just enjoy the moment. It's so easy to run, run, run, and do, do, do that we just forget to simple be. be still. treat ourselves. be good to ourselves.

My dear husband is really amazing at taking care of me in this way. He can always tell when I need some "me-time". He is so sweet to watch the kids, at least once a week, so I can have some alone time out of the house for a few hours. It's amazing how just a couple hours away on my own can re-energize me and remind me of all that I have to be thankful for!

When you're on a tight budget like we are, there's not much money for extras. You know, those little things in the store you'd like to have, but don't actually need. I'm not complaining - we're so blessed in lots of ways! And I don't usually get upset about having to say no to that scented candle or fun pair of socks. But sometimes, you wish you could just throw caution to the wind and buy whatever you want in the store. :)

Last night, I had some extra money in my bank account because of my booth sales last weekend. And I knew what I wanted to do with it. Normally, I just buy something I need, something practical. But, not this time. :) I went to Target last night and had so much fun picking out little things, all of which I didn't need (with the exception of bubble wrap and toilet paper - haha). It was really nice, y'all. I felt rich! :) And I felt so blessed. I could feel Jesus smiling at me, enjoying the moment with me! And I was reminded of that scripture of how God loves to lavish gifts on His children. And I felt loved. Really loved by Him. In the middle of Target, holding a pair of sparkly snowflake socks. :)

some of my goodies:
fun socks for ruth (princess and hello kitty - she wore the hello kitty ones to school today)
5 new spoons (random, i know, but i've been wanting to get a new set for a long time)
a new pink water bottle for me (and a matching blue one for leo)
lots of yummy coffee drinks (you know i'm a sucker for those)
pumpkin pie bar mix (that is now baking in my oven! i can't wait to try it!)
and a yummy "baked apple streudel" scented candle that i actually got at Walmart on Sunday

and I'm super excited about these little things:
a pair of snowflake socks for moi :)
peppermint mocha coffee
and last, but certainly not least -
fun washi tape and bakers twine to make my etsy packages pretty!

I hope that you are taking some time for yourself, too. We've got to have some special "me-time" as moms, so we can get filled back up again to give out to our husbands and children! So, enjoy a cup of coffee or hot cocoa, read a magazine, listen to some worship music, and just be.
Be still.
Rest in God's love for you today.
He is for you!
And He wants to lavish His love and His blessings upon you today!

  1. What a great post! I love the fact that your husband treats you each week to some "me-time" to rejuvenate. That's so thoughtful of him! Your goodies from Target looks exactly what I would pick, too!! :) There's nothing better than new, cozy socks! Love it.

  2. Ah, Target! I remember getting to wander through alone at about 9:00 one night; I thought I had gone on vacation!

Glad you got to do that!

  3. Yay for cute sparkle-ey snowflake socks! Yay for treating yourself. I so know what you mean when you say that because of the budget you can't always treat yourself to the little things. I'm so excited that you got your little treat at Target the other day. So much fun!

  4. you're so right, women, generally, put themselves last and then we pay big time in crankiness. love your goodies and love how simple things bring such joy.
